Keeping Customers In And The Smell Out Commercial restrooms are one of the most highly trafficked rooms in a business setting. If you’re the employee in charge of keeping them clean, you understand how important it is to hire an efficient commercial cleaning service. First impressions are everything when it comes to customers and clients and having a less than stellar bathroom facility won’t gain you any points. That’s why it’s you should regularly assess the job that your cleaners are doing. A five-star cleaning service should be delivering not only sparkling clean countertops and floors, but they should also be systematically deep cleaning the restrooms for a sanitary environment. It sounds simple enough to check the cleanliness of a restroom, but unless you’re an army drill sergeant how do you determine what is clean? Beyond testing surfaces with a white-gloved finger or searching corners with a magnifying glass, there are guidelines that you can follow to help you rate your cleaning service. If you find that the results are less than spotless you can motivate your commercial cleaners to do a better job or find a different contractor. As you begin your assessment, your first clue that your janitorial service is not doing the work to their full capacity is the smell. If your instinct upon walking through the door is to turn around and leave, then there’s a problem. However, don’t be fooled by a restroom that smells like spring flowers; it could be a tactic to fool you into thinking the area is sanitary. It’s helpful to bring a checklist with you to note the state of each area. Break it down into groups like stalls, sinks, floor, and toiletries. Make notes specific to first impressions such as trash on the floor, empty soap containers, and slick floors. Start with one area and go down the list for a complete evaluation. Check the hard floor surface for evidence of residue or stains – this could mean that the cleaning service is using the wrong cleaning product. If the floor is sticky, then they aren’t cleaning it regularly. Look inside the bathroom stalls particularly at the base of the toilets and the corners for hair, dust, and grime. The floor drains should also be checked for blockages and dirt. It’s not a pleasant job but take a look at the toilets and urinals. What you should expect is that all of the surfaces around, under and inside of are clean and stain free. Dirty toilets are vectors that spread disease as are sink and door handles. The sinks and faucets should be free from mildew free and drains clear. Look for streak free mirrors, shiny stainless steel surfaces, and spotless walls to check off your list. Finally, look for things that many people might miss dusty vents, dirty feminine products disposal units, and hazards such as poor lighting or cleaning products not stored properly. Lastly, all of the toiletries should we well stocked such as the paper towels, toilet paper, and soap. After reviewing your checklist talk to your cleaning service about where they need to better maintain the sanitary standards they are being paid to provide. Set a schedule to re-evaluate the cleanliness factor and find another contractor if you are unhappy with the results.
